I agree with this. I believe the wiki should be open again for editing by anyone, but that strong security measures should be taken, including bots (there are lots of bots for MediaWiki out there, we don't have to do all the job of coding one manually), filters (slightly less efficient at detecting vandalism than bots, but is handled by MediaWiki and therefore doesn't need to check all the recent changes or such) and all changes needing to be reviewed. Page creation should also not be allowed.
Reviewing, page creation and all the rest could be done by the current writers.
