Novetus is a free and open source multi-version Roblox client launcher by Bitl, built to allow users to run LAN and Internet servers. The latest stable version has 2007-2011 clients, with snapshot versions providing 2012.

NOTICE: This article is still a work-in-progress due to development of Novetus version 2.0. Guides and documentation will be added when it reaches release.

Installation and setup

Novetus is a portable application, meaning it is not installed to your computer. To get Novetus, simply download and extract the .zip file of your choice from one of the below pages. To open the launcher, run NovetusBootstrapper.exe in the extracted folder.

There are currently 3 different versions:

Stable (full)

The latest stable version, a good default option. Includes all maps, clients, SDK tools, as well as the classic Roblox soundtrack. However, it has a large file size - 741MB as of 1.3 v8.2022.1.

Novetus Stable comes with these clients:

Client Name Description
2006S* ** 2006 Simulation A ROBLOX client from early 2007 modified to look like 2006. Has no animations and the old font. Character customization is limited to body colors only.
2006S-Shaders* ** 2006 Simulation (with shaders enabled) A ROBLOX client from early 2007 modified to look like 2006 with shaders enabled. Has no animations and the old font. Character customization is limited to body colors only.
2007E* Early 2007 A ROBLOX client from early 2007, complete with circle studs, old player camera, old animations, bloom, DOF, odd player physics, Office 2007 styles, non-CamelCase Lua functions, and nostalgia.
2007E-Shaders* Early 2007 (with shaders enabled) A ROBLOX client from early 2007, complete with circle studs, old player camera, old animations, bloom, DOF, odd player physics, Office 2007 styles, non-CamelCase Lua functions, and nostalgia.

2010L Late 2010 A ROBLOX client from late 2010, which includes the old square studs and the User GUI system.
2011E Early 2011 A ROBLOX client from early 2011, which includes the old square studs, an enhanced user interface, and a "lock cursor" feature.
2011M Mid 2011 A ROBLOX client from mid 2011, which includes the old square studs, an enhanced user interface, an updated scoreboard, and a new force field.
ClientScriptTester ClientScriptTester A "client" used to test out every possible ClientScript option. The clientinfo is unlocked as well, so you can modify as you please.

* WARNING: This client is known to contain massive security vulnerabilities. If you are planning on playing this client online, use a sandboxing tool like Sandboxie. You don't need to do this when playing solo. This client has been patched to fix these security issues, but more may come up during gameplay. Only play on servers you trust.

** This is a simulation client. Due to this, the client may be inaccurate in some places.

Stable (lite)

The lite version is still compatible with servers hosted on the full, and vice-versa. It simply comes with less maps, clients, SDK tools, and no soundtrack to reduce filesize. (Note that the only clients removed are cosmetic variants or clients that are not used often by users on the Discord Server - all versions offered in full are still available in lite).

Novetus Stable (Lite) comes with these clients (info carries over from stable full):

  • 2007E
  • 2007M
  • 2008M
  • 2009E
  • 2010L
  • 2011E
  • 2011M

Snapshot

Snapshot versions are still in development, but are playable. There may be bugs, but in return, it comes with a lot more features since the last stable version, including the 2009L and 2012M clients.

Novetus Snapshot (as of Version EDGE Snapshot v23.8700.30967.1) comes with these clients in addition to the stable clients:

Client Name Description
2009L* Late 2009 A ROBLOX client from late 2009. One of the first known clients to implement User GUIs, and the last known one to use Comic Sans as the default font.
2012M Mid 2012 A ROBLOX client from mid 2012, which includes voxel terrain with water, Studio Plugins support, and a sightly updated GUI similar to the 2011L GUI.

* 2009L was added in previous Novetus versions, but was removed to to technical issues that are now fixed.

How to play

Novetus
Select the place, then click Server.

To play in a local server:

  1. Select the client you want to use.
  2. Select the place you want to play in.
  3. Start the server.
  4. Allow client through the firewall if prompted.
  5. Join the client to localhost.

To play in someone else's server:

  1. Select the client specified by the host.
  2. Join the client to the IP address and port given by the host.

You need to use the same Novetus version as the host.

If you join a server with the same username or user ID as someone else, this can cause issues. One way to avoid this is using your ROBLOX username and user ID, as long as your user ID is 2147483647 or less. Any more results in a negative user ID, which changes the behavior of certain places.

How to host

Novetus
Select the place, then click Server.
  1. Port forward on your router if not already done (usually you want to use port 53640).
  2. Select the client to host with.
  3. Select the place you want to host.
  4. Start the server.
  5. Allow client through the firewall if prompted.
  6. Share your public IP address, specify port 53640, and specify the client so other users can join your server.

Users need to use the same Novetus version as you.

Hosting multiple servers at once

The standard port for hosting your own ROBLOX game servers is 53640, but you will need more ports if you want to host multiple servers at once on the same machine. Port forward additional ports for each other game server you would like to host. Specify those ports to the users who wish to join each server.

History

Novetus was made by Bitl as a successor to his RBXLegacy launcher, with new features that enhance the launcher for mod development, player customization, and overall usability. Novetus is based on RBXLegacy 1.16.2, with some features from RBXLegacy 1.18.
