Tables as Layout

We all know how wrong it is. All current browsers support display:table properties, except for IE 6 and 7. However, the combined usage share of 6 and 7 is less than 5%. Is that low enough to make the switch? --Anaminus 19:15, 27 April 2012 (EDT)

I hate using table for layouts, but I still did so. Why? To be consistent with the rest of the wiki. If you decide to change them all (including the main page, might require a dev to approve, though) to not use tables, I am completely agreeing with you. However, since I didn't really want to change the main page and every other part of the wiki that uses tables, I decided to just be consistent and use tables even though I really felt wrong while doing it. If it had been on a real website, then I would just have not created the page at all or changed the whole website. But, since it's on a wiki... --JulienDethurens 20:50, 27 April 2012 (EDT)

the display:table properties are incomplete in all browsers. I don't think the spec itself even provides enough to completely replace any table with equivalent CSS formatting. This page, however, probably could be done with them. Tables are used here because this type of layout is actually REALLY DIFFICULT to achieve with floats and other CSS tricks. I didn't see much point using display:table properties, particularly since MDB told me not to on my talk page:

IE6 is mandatory support, I run all of my page tests through a VM running WinXP and IE6 not updated for years. DIVs are fun stuff, but not the kind of fun I want to deal with supporting. ---User:Mr Doom Bringer (Talk) 00:25, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
